Suspect Arrested After Woman Killed In Virginia Murder-For Hire Conspiracy, Police Say

One person is in custody and another is wanted in connection to a murder-for-hire conspiracy that left a 23-year-old woman from North Carolina dead in Prince William County, police say.

Drew Courtney Buchanan, 27 has been arrested in connection to the murder of Burlington resident Egypt Zapporah Carter in February, authorities announced on Monday.

Denzel Scott Wade, 30, who is believed to have been present at the time of the fatal shooting, is also now wanted in connection to the fatal shooting.

Both men are from Woodbridge.

According to the Prince William County Police Department, shortly after 2 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 2, officers were called to the area of Bronson Court and Brickwood Drive in Woodbridge, where they found Carter suffering from gunshot wounds inside a vehicle near an apartment complex with a small dog in the backseat.

The dog was unharmed.

Investigators say that a murder-for-hire was arranged to kill Carter, and detectives believe Buchanan carried out the act in murder in the victim, and Wade is believed to have been present at the time.

Buchanan was located in Manassas and arrested without incident. Wade remains at large.

Buchanan was charged with: 

  • Second-degree murder;
  • Shooting into an occupied vehicle;
  • Use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Wade is wanted for conspiracy to commit a felony.

Buchanan is being held without bond. His court date is pending.

More information is expected to be released as the investigation continues.
